WebThrombin is the main enzyme of the coagulation pathway with multiple key activities. However, the primary function of thrombin is to cleave fibrinopeptides (FP) A and B from the α and β chains of the fibrinogen molecule, triggering spontaneous fibrin polymerization and the beginning of the fibrin clot (Figure 35.8 ).
