WebJan 24, 2011 · the part time light is on, when the part time 4wd is NOT engaged, when I actually engage the 4wd, the light goes OFF, 4Lo works fine and lights up the way it's supposed to. the Dealer said i needed to have the sensor replaced, which was a 70-80 dollar part, plus another diagnostic fee and labor. Has anyone else had this problem? WebJan 25, 2013 · On the other hand, the part-time system, when engaged in 4wd high, mechanically locks the front and rear driveshafts together. This 4wd mode cannot be used on firm ground, unless you want to risk damaging your drivetrain. I'm not sure exactly how this works, but the front wheels on a vehicle turn a bit faster than the rear wheels.
